I’ve titled this segment “Time Traveling In A Lucid Dream”. I’ve had many lucid dreams but this one takes the cake in regards to sheer creativity and uniqueness. It also was incredibly vivid and life like. For those of you listening familiar with lucid dreaming, you know that the degree of lucidity can vary greatly from dream to dream. Before we dive right in to the dream, I want to explain its level of vividness and my level of self-awareness during the dream.
Upon arriving in the dream, I very much knew that I was dreaming. However I remained partially fooled. I knew that I was dreaming, but I literally believed that I had physically traveled back into the past. This is perhaps because the places I visited in the dream were indeed about a 100% recreation of places I visited in the past containing people I remembered from the past who had even seemed to retain their current age from that particular time in the past, in the dream. While very much aware that I was in a dream, I fully believed that I was physically in the past. I would also like to ad that the dream was intense and just as vivid and life like as you’d expect any normal life experience to be; so being fooled wasn’t a difficult task on the dreams part.
The first dream scene began with me at a small convention center in my home city setting up my table and tradeshow display for a business-marketing event. The interesting thing is in my normal waking life I attend these types of events all the time. However, in this dream I was setting up a display for Philosophy Of Dreams, which I have never done before in the past. At present I don’t even actually own a tradeshow display for Philosophy Of Dreams. At this point in the dream I was not yet lucid. While setting up my tradeshow display two men approached me and asked if I needed help setting up the display. I happily obliged. While helping me they asked me what services Philosophy Of Dreams specialized in. I replied, “I’m a psychotherapist that specializes in dream analysis and dream interpretations”. They immediately began laughing at me. One of the men said, “yeah buddy that’s way ahead of its time”. And then the other man replied, “Yeah dude it’s the 1950’s...seriously”? I quickly examined my surroundings and realized the furniture and décor was much older then that of the 2000’s and I immediately became lucid, realizing I was in the distant past. Shortly after this realization the dream scene changed.
When the second dream scene materialized I was at an old house party. A party I really attended during my high school years. When this scene began I could still remember the previous scene involving the two men at the convention center. I retained full recollection of the scene before arriving at the party and knew that I was still in a complete recreation of my past. I was sitting on a couch at this house party. Sitting on the same couch, in the same manner, flirting with the same girl I had a crush with at the time. Her name was Kristy. While we were sitting I said, “Kristy, I need to talk to you about something but you are going to think I’d crazy”. She giggled and then said, “Prince you can tell me anything. It won’t scare me”. I hesitated for a good 20 seconds or more because I didn’t even know where to start, or whether she’d think I was a nut. It felt like something out of a sci-fi movie where everything has gone strange and only one person is aware of it. I finally opened my mouth and said, “Right now, I am asleep in my bed, and somehow I’m traveling back in time in my dream. So this party is in the past and I attended over 15 years ago. I am actually from the future!” Here eyes got really big and she said, “Well of course you are here. You’re here with me now, I don’t understand what you mean.” I then said, “Kristy, at this current time in my life, in the future, I have a wife and three kids and a career. The person you are sitting here with now is not the same person that had a crush on you almost 15 years ago.” She sat there starring at me as if I were crazy and didn’t say a word, then the dream began fading to another scene.
Upon arriving at the 3rd scene of my past, I realized it was a bar that I used to hang out at in my early 20’s. There again, sitting at the bar with her friends, was Kristy. This time I was determined to convince her of my story, as I feared the dream would soon again fade to a new scene of the past. I was beginning to fear that I might possibly be stuck forever uncontrollably transitioning through the past. I immediately approached Kristy, interrupting her conversation with friends. I said, “Kristy I don’t have much time, and I need to speak with you about something very important! NOW!” By her facial expression I could tell that she was beginning to realize that something was very sincere in my tone and sense of urgency. I then led her to a quiet corner of the bar. I explained to her that she and I were literally just speaking about this in another version of the past. I told her that I didn’t have much time until I got pushed into another part of the past. I explained to her that she had to believe me and even if she didn’t it was of the utmost importance that someone from her time know that time travel was real for the sake of science. Still in total confusion and disbelief she looked at me and said, “I’ve got to get back to my friends”. As she started to walk away I quickly grabbed her arm and said, “If I’m not from the future how do I know that you will marry this person, and how do I know on your 21st birthday you will purchase XYZ car? How could I possibly know you will attend XYZ College and graduate with honors”? She stopped, and looked right into my eyes and for the first time in the dream I knew right then she believed me. Then suddenly, out of now where, walks up the person in real life that Kristy decided to date instead of me. He walks up and says, “Hey Kristy! Want to dance? I’ll even buy you a drink”. It was as if everything I had just explained to Kristy didn’t mean a thing, as she ran off with the other guy.
At that moment I felt lonely and betrayed. To make matters worse I was starting to believe I would be stuck in the past forever. The actual thought of not getting back to my real family in the distant future actually had a real emotional impact on me in the dream. It’s hard to even describe the feeling that came over me of being lost in the past, an old soul in a time that I had long matured and grown from. I felt as if this time period I was in had nothing to offer me. I left the bar and headed back to my car, which was at the end of a back alley. To my amazement it was my actual car from present day in my normal waking life. Upon arriving within about 15ft of my car I noticed a women that was partially leaning inside my front passenger side door. I asked her, “Hey, why are you inside my car?” She didn’t answer. She just stepped back a few steps and pointed at the floor of my car. As I walked up to see what she was pointing at there laid the dead body of a women in the floor of my car. The dream ended!
So thanks for listening to this amazingly vivid and awkward dream of traveling through time in a lucid dream. In the next segment of Dream Interpretation 101 I will explain this dreams interpretation. I will cover exactly what happened the day before I had this dream that I believe triggered it and what I believe to be it’s suggested meaning. Stay tuned and thanks again for listening.
